Arizona Can Enforce an 1864 Law That Criminalizes ALL Abortions?!

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Arizona could join another fourteen states after they found out that they could enforce a law that was made in 1864 criminalizing all abortions except if the woman’s life is at risk. It’s important to note that the law does not exempt rape or incest but only if the woman’s life is at risk.

The court did say that they won’t begin enforcing it for two more weeks and that it could be up to two months depending on the agreement reached in the current abortion case.

Because the state would be at a near-total ban, they will see their number of abortions drop to zero per month from almost a thousand per month. The new law also says that doctors who perform abortions could face jail time of up to five years.

Eva Burch, Arizona Senator, has pushed support for abortions after getting one herself because her pregnancy was not viable. “The fight for reproductive rights is not over in Arizona,” said Burch. She continued, “This moment must not slow us down.”

Planned Parenthood says that they would continue providing abortions for the short time that they are still legal and then they will help women to travel out of state in order to access abortion.

“Even with today’s ruling, Planned Parenthood Arizona will continue to provide abortion through 15 weeks for a very short period of time,” said Angela Florez, president of Planned Parenthood in Arizona.

With this, some people were for the ruling and many said that they were happy that these babies would no longer be able to be aborted. On the other hand, some people said that some women would become desperate to get rid of the baby if an abortion wasn’t legal, which meant they could go to extremes in order to terminate the pregnancy themselves.
