CHILLING MURDER

A Department of Homeland Security employee was brutally murdered by a criminal immigrant naturalized under Biden-era policies despite an extensive prior criminal record, exposing catastrophic failures in immigration vetting that may have cost multiple innocent lives.

Story Snapshot

  • Lauren Bullis, 40, a DHS Inspector General employee, was shot and stabbed to death while walking her dog on April 13, 2026, in DeKalb County, Georgia
  • Suspect Olaolukitan Adon Abel, naturalized in 2022 under Biden administration, had prior convictions including sexual battery, assault with deadly weapon, and battery on police officer
  • Abel allegedly committed three random attacks in one night, killing two people and critically injuring a homeless man
  • DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin confirmed the suspect’s criminal history and announced Trump administration reforms to prevent similar citizenship approvals

Deadly Overnight Rampage Claims DHS Employee

Lauren Bullis stepped out to walk her dog on Battle Forest Drive around 6:50 a.m. on April 13, 2026, never returning home. The 40-year-old Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General employee was shot and stabbed to death in what DeKalb County police described as a random attack.

Hours earlier, the same suspect allegedly murdered an unidentified woman outside a Checkers restaurant at 12:52 a.m. and shot a homeless man multiple times outside a Kroger in Brookhaven around 2:00 a.m. The violent spree ended with Bullis’s death and the suspect’s arrest later that Monday.

Biden-Era Naturalization Despite Criminal Record

DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin revealed on April 15 that suspect Olaolukitan Adon Abel, 26, was born in the United Kingdom and naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 2022 during the Biden administration. Abel had accumulated multiple U.S. convictions before receiving citizenship, including sexual battery, battery on a police officer, obstruction, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism.

Federal law requires naturalization candidates to demonstrate “good moral character,” raising serious questions about how Abel cleared the vetting process. Under Biden, USCIS naturalized over 3 million people from fiscal years 2021 through 2024, with critics alleging the agency relaxed standards amid the processing surge.

Trump Administration Tightens Citizenship Standards

Following Trump’s return to office in January 2025, DHS and USCIS implemented stricter measures to deny or revoke citizenship for individuals with criminal histories. Mullin emphasized these reforms would prevent criminals from obtaining citizenship, stating that the Trump administration ensures applicants truly meet “good moral character” requirements.

Abel now faces two counts of murder, aggravated assault, and multiple weapons offenses while in custody. Mullin described the attacks as “acts of pure evil” that devastated the department, offering prayers for victims and their families while announcing DHS cooperation with the ongoing investigation.

Community Mourns Dedicated Public Servant

Colleagues and family members remembered Bullis as a devoted DHS employee known for her generosity, love of running, reading, and travel. Her family expressed devastation at losing someone during a routine morning activity in their own neighborhood.

The random nature of the attacks sent shockwaves through DeKalab County communities, where residents now question their safety.

Two additional victims—an unidentified woman and a homeless man—suffered from the same suspect’s violence, highlighting the broader failure to protect the public from a known criminal who should never have been granted citizenship privileges in the first place.

Vetting Failures Expose Deeper Government Problems

This tragedy illustrates the consequences when government bureaucracies prioritize processing volume over public safety. Naturalization is a privilege earned through demonstrated good character and respect for American laws—not a rubber stamp for criminals.

The fact that Abel committed sexual battery, assaulted a police officer, and wielded deadly weapons yet still received citizenship in 2022 represents an egregious failure by those entrusted to gatekeep American citizenship.

Families across the nation now wonder how many other criminals slipped through Biden-era vetting while bureaucrats focused on numbers rather than protecting communities from individuals who proved their disregard for the law and human life.
