(AmericanProsperity.com) – After the raid at Mar-a-Lago, President Joe Biden told “60 Minutes” he questioned “how anyone could be that irresponsible.” Now, following the news of classified documents found in his old office in Washington, DC, the president might be in similarly hot water.

CNN reported that officials found roughly 10 classified documents on November 2, but the information only just hit new sources. The files, dated between 2013 and 2016, were among a few boxes that held unclassified material from Biden’s term as vice president. Most of the documents were personal, with many covering details surrounding Beau Biden’s funeral. The protected documents reportedly included “memos and briefing materials” pertaining to Iran, the UK, and Ukraine.
The discovery was apparently an accident. One of Biden’s lawyers, while moving files from the office following the end of his VP term, reportedly peeked into a manilla folder marked “personal” and discovered a privileged document. The individual immediately contacted the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) and subsequently handed over a number of boxes to the agency.
Representative James Comer (R-KY) couldn’t help but comment on the irony of the situation, noting how critical Biden had been of Trump after the Mar-a-Lago raid. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), just elected House Speaker, pointed at the recent situation as evidence that the response to Trump’s handling of classified material was political. Even some Democrats have responded to the breaking news with disapproval. Representatives Adam Schiff (D-CA) and Jim Himes (D-CT) both stressed the importance of handling sensitive data responsibly.
Biden expressed surprise over the news. He said he had no idea his old private office had held confidential material, and he’s cooperating fully with the investigation. The president’s defenders point out that Trump had over 325 sensitive documents in his possession when NARA requested them, and the agency had to fight the 45th president’s lawyers for them. In contrast, Biden had roughly 10 classified documents, one of which his lawyer identified and personally volunteered for review.
Still, Attorney General Merrick Garland has not indicated that a criminal investigation is off the table.
