Kamala Harris To Give 50th Anniversary Speech of Roe V Wade

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Vice President Harris plans to attempt to drag media attention away from the Biden administration’s performance and back onto the abortion debate. Harris will highlight the 50th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade ruling at an event in Florida on Sunday. Meanwhile, Democrat efforts to enforce abortion rights through federal law look dead in the water.

For almost 50 years the Supreme Court’s landmark Roe v. Wade decision legalized abortion across the US. However, as a result of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the court overturned that decision on June 24 last year. In a 6 to 3 vote, the justices ruled that the Constitution doesn’t protect the right to abortion. Following this ruling, abortion law was returned to the states, and several have now restricted or banned the procedure.

After the Dobbs ruling, the Biden administration started pushing for Congress to enshrine abortion rights in federal law. Two pro-abortion bills were introduced on July 15, 2022, and passed the House, but they’re unlikely to get through the Senate. Now, with a GOP majority in the House, there’s little chance of the administration passing more pro-abortion bills. In fact, Republicans have already managed to pass two pro-life bills this month in a clear sign of the direction Congress is now moving.

Now, Harris is trying to keep the abortion debate in the public eye. She headed to Florida on January 22 to talk about the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and discuss the administration’s efforts to enforce US-wide access to abortions.

According to administration officials, Harris chose Florida because Governor Ron DeSantis (R), a likely presidential candidate in 2024 and signed new abortion restrictions into law last April. By publicly defending Roe at a pro-abortion rally in Tallahassee, Harris will directly challenge the popular governor on a high-profile issue — and possibly distract attention from the growing Biden document scandal.
