Elon Musk Announces Removal of Twitter’s Inactive Accounts

(AmericanProsperity.com) – South African billionaire and Twitter CEO Elon Musk said in a Monday tweet that the social media platform will purge accounts that haven’t been active for plenty of years. This action represents a continuation of a bevy of policy changes he has been handing down at the company, with Twitter users expressing mixed opinions.

In his Twitter post, Musk said he and his team are purging different accounts that haven’t presented any type of activity “for several years.” He also told users it’s possible that their follower count would suddenly drop because of this.

Since buying the company in October 2022 for $44 billion, the South African billionaire has made different changes that have received praise and criticism from tech leaders and experts all around the world.

One of the most controversial moments came when he decided to fire many Twitter staffers, with many media outlets pointing out this would probably represent the end of the social media platform. In fact, some media outlets and tech experts even suggested that Twitter could shut down in a matter of days or a few weeks, claiming that Musk lost control of the company and his new staffers wouldn’t be able to solve the service outages, glitches, and safety risks. While the social media platform is currently facing some issues, many agree that the chance of a total meltdown now seems unlikely.

Recently, Musk overhauled Twitter’s user verification system by removing verification from users, including media outlets and even journalists that were officially verified under previous methods. This raised a major controversy as many claimed this would make the reliable flow of information more difficult as journalists usually relied on these verifications to share some of the most important news or histories. Moreover, many claim that journalists who report on some of the most sensitive or dangerous topics will now face safety risks because of this.
