(AmericanProsperity.com) – A recent poll conducted by the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research and The Associated Press, revealed on Tuesday that US citizens are mostly divided on the number of asylum-seekers and immigrants that should be allowed to enter the country. The results revealed that 44 percent of respondents think that fewer immigrants should enter, while only 34 percent of the respondents said that the number should remain the same. Moreover, 20 percent believe that the number of immigrants should increase, representing a number that has decreased in comparison with previous polls on the same matter.
The numbers revealed by the research organization and the news agency showed similar results in the case of asylum-seekers, with 24 percent of respondents saying that the number should increase, 30 percent saying that the number should remain the same, and 43 percent saying that the number should be reduced.
Public support for immigration has been decreasing among Americans since the start of the Biden administration. A poll conducted in March 2021 revealed that only 29 percent of US citizens thought that the current immigration status quo should decrease, with 28 percent believing it should increase and 41 percent supporting the way it was back then.
The poll conducted by The Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research pointed out that Democrats are split in the case of asylum and immigration. 42 percent of the respondents who support the Democratic Party want to keep the current policy on immigration, while 27 percent want to increase it and the other 27 percent want to decrease it.
However, 37 percent of respondents who support the Democratic Party are more likely to favor an increase in asylum-seekers, while 36 percent approve the current status quo and only 26 percent support a decrease. On the other hand, Republicans are more likely to support a decrease in both asylum and immigration, with 68 percent and 65 percent respectively.
