(AmericanProsperity.com) – Texas officials have recently been blocking the U.S. Southern Border and the Biden Administration is giving them a stern warning.
The Biden Administration has called this blocking “clearly unconstitutional” and has asked the Texas National Guard to stop blocking the U.S. Southern Border. The top lawyer at the Department of Homeland Security, Jonathan Meyer, recently said in a statement that “If the Texas National Guard does not heed the Biden administration’s demand and cease its efforts to block Border Patrol’s access to a public park in the border town of Eagle Pass, the Department of Homeland Security will refer the matter to the Justice Department and explore other options.”
The Texas National Guard recently tried to seize control of Eagle Pass’ Shelby Park which is where Border Patrol agents were originally holding migrants, and the Biden Administration has warned them, saying that it’s “impeding federal operations.” They even highlighted the drownings of three different migrants near Shelby Park and how this proves their inability to handle the border with Texas blocking it.
The White House officials, as well as others, have spoken out about the National Guard blocking Border Patrol agents from attempting to help those who drowned. The Texas Military Department spoke out saying that two victims had already drowned when they were looking to get access to the park.
Meyer continued in his statement saying, “If you have not confirmed by the end of day on January 17, 2024, that Texas will cease and desist its efforts to block Border Patrol’s access in and around the Shelby Park area and remove all barriers to access to the U.S.-Mexico border, we will refer the matter to the Department of Justice for appropriate action and consider all other options available to restore Border Patrol’s access to the border.”
Texas did comment by saying that its goals are only to help deter unlawful migrants from entering the area and that this, along with the razor wire and fencing, prevents them from coming in.
Greg Abbott, the Texas Governor, has been known to implement controversial measures when it comes to border control, and this is yet another example. Last week the Justice Department reported the issues of what the National Guard in Texas was doing and promptly released its statement.
