U.S. Citizen Arrested Coming from Mexico With Fentanyl

$130,000 Worth of Fentanyl Found on U.S. Citizen

(AmericanProsperity.com) – A United States Citizen who was coming from Mexico back into the United States was found with $130,000 worth of Fentanyl on the taxi they were riding in.

A taxi that was carrying four passengers was stopped for inspection when crossing the border at an immigration checkpoint of the U.S. Border Patrol. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, “The agent in the primary inspection area referred the vehicle for further investigation.” They continued, “In the secondary area a K-9 team trained to detect concealed humans and narcotics asked for consent to search the vehicle from the driver and was granted permission.”

The trunk of the car drew the attention of the K-9 unit which inspected the vehicle, and when they opened it, there were multiple bags inside as well as a speaker. Both of these items were filled with bags of Fentanyl that were wrapped similarly to how many illegal narcotics are wrapped. Authorities recovered about 10 pounds of Fentanyl, which equates to $130,000 worth. The U.S. citizen responsible did claim the bags as their property and was arrested; the narcotics were handed over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

According to Customs and Border Protection, the seizure was part of a larger operation called Operation Apollo, which they classify as a “joint regional operation comprised of federal state and local agencies.” More in-depth information regarding the citizen, including their name, has not been revealed as the investigation is still ongoing.
