Ramaswamy Files Lawsuit Against DOJ, Seeks Records for Trump Indictment

(AmericanProsperity.com) – Conservative businessman and GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy announced on August 1 he’s suing the Department of Justice. He also said he’s filing a Freedom of Information Act record request to obtain more details about the latest indictments against presidential candidate and former President Donald Trump.

In a statement published by his presidential campaign, Ramaswamy said that his goal is to deliver “accountability and transparency.” He said he hopes this lawsuit can reveal what President Joe Biden and “his cronies” told Attorney General Merrick Garland, and what he and the “deep-state” told Special Counsel Jack Smith.

A Washington grand jury indicted the former commander-in-chief on August 1 on charges that included conspiracy to defraud the United States. Each of these charges was related to his alleged efforts to stay in power after losing the 2020 presidential election. The indictment states that following election day, Trump “spread lies” about the presidential election being fraudulent and that he had “actually won.”

In the statement, Ramaswamy claimed that these indictments omit “relevant facts and law.” The presidential candidate also accused the federal police of being a “corrupt” institution, pointing out this one won’t stop until it achieves its main goal, which is to “eliminate Trump.”

As noted in the filing, his campaign submitted a FOIA request back in June when the candidate was seeking DOJ’s records and documents related to its decision to indict Trump. The filing points out this took place after the former commander-in-chief was indicted on different charges related to the mishandling of classified documents.

The complaint reads that the campaign brings this suit “to compel DOJ” to respond to its FOIA request and disclose responsive non-exempt records as soon as possible. Ramaswamy’s campaign also said his new filing requests for similar communications related to the new indictments Trump is facing.

The presidential candidate argued that Trump was never the “real cause” for the Capitol riots. He also restated in his statement that he would pardon the former commander-in-chief if he wins the 2024 presidential election.
