(AmericanProsperity.com) – Democratic Virginia Senator Mark Warner expressed doubts during a Sunday interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation” about any move from the US Department of Justice (DOJ) to withhold information from lawmakers about classified documents that were mishandled by former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden, pointing out that this action is quite questionable and raises suspicions.
The Senate Intelligence Committee chair said that more information about these documents is needed as soon as possible, in order to know what the US intelligence community has been doing over the last few years “to mitigate the harm.” While the Virginia Democrat and a bipartisan group of lawmakers and Senators received a classified briefing on these documents in February last week, he said at the time that this meeting wasn’t fulfilling and didn’t manage to clarify all doubts.
Right now, the mishandling of classified information by former President Trump and President Biden is under different federal investigations. Warner and Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who is also the vice chairman of the intelligence panel, have been claiming that the White House must provide lawmakers in the House more information about the content of these documents and the different actions that have been taken to reduce the harm caused by the mishandling.
During the CBS interview, Warner explained that even when officials have claimed that divulging any type of information about these documents could affect the different investigations, the Senate Intelligence Committee has the job to make sure that the intel community hasn’t done the wrong thing. He also said that the Biden administration’s position on this matter doesn’t “pass the smell test.”
Over the last few weeks, Rubio and Warner have been pressing the Biden administration to allow access to the documents. Both of them sent a letter to US Attorney General Merrick Garland in February, urging to see the documents that both President Biden and Trump seized.
